Those in policing often say #neverforget when speaking of a fallen comrade, whatever the cause. I know I often have. Yet today as I read posts about Andy, it struck me that maybe it would be perhaps better to #AlwaysRemember. The difference seems slight if any at first, but I think the second infers an intentional activity, one of the mind and heart. Always remember them in how we live, love, and serve. Always remember how they helped us be who we have become and seek to be better because of it. From my six years in policing, I want to always remember Charlie, Andy, Morty, and Bruce. I want to be better in uniform or not, because in their own unique ways, they each were among the best and their lives matter still. I want them to be in the forefront of my mind remembered with joy, not something in the back of it. To all my APD friends and colleagues, to those I’ve served with as chaplain, I remember you, too. I always will. God bless you all.
